Ways to Serve Our Cities

The City of Lansing has various initiatives. The Police Department has community engagement events where groups can donate supplies and goods. Cadet programs are available for fire and police career paths. Public City Council meetings happen weekly to make your voice in front of decision-makers. The City Council adopts the annual city budget. Council listens to the community (those few who speak their opinions) and incorporates its wishes. The faith-based community should consider coming together around areas that it unanimously supports and advocate for those things.

Resources for Community Groups

  • The Fire department desires to come talk to congregations to provide Job opportunities for your youth population.

  • There are various financial resources available to help groups serve the Community. If a group has an event or series of events that require financing, that group can petition Council’s General Services Committee for support. Men Making a Difference and Lansing Harmony Festival each received restricted funds for their event.

  • Moreover, the City of Lansing may partner with the group for a good cause, just need any plans submitted in advance.

Ways to Pray for our Cities

Please pray for City leaders to have wisdom. Elected officials are mere lay people without expertise in most of the areas in which they deal. Officials often must educate themselves on issues and areas before they make decisions. Pray that the right information supported in strong moral values are instilled before important decisions are made.

STATE OF THE CITY 2019 - GOVERNMENT & LAW FOCUS

“Lansing MobilePD” and “Lansing Connect” are new smartphone apps that can be used to report crime to the Lansing Police Department, report code violations, streetlights that are out, and other city services where people need assistance. Also, the Mayor’s Veterans Commission will also be created to focus efforts on the expressed needs of the many veterans in the Lansing community.

PUBLIC SAFETY • The Lansing Police and Fire Departments work hard to keep us safe every day. That hard work has resulted in violent crime being down 14 percent in Lansing in 2018.
• The quick thinking and expertise of Emergency Management and Public Service personnel saved the city over $2 million in flood damage during the flooding in February 2018.
• MobilePD, a new smartphone app that can be used to report crime to the Lansing Police Department, launched in 2018. The app is complementary to Lansing Connect, a web and smartphone based app which allows citizens to report code violations, streetlights that are out, and other city services where people need assistance: www.lansingmi.gov/lansingconnect.
• The Veterans Commission will be created to focus on the needs of the many veterans in the Lansing community. This commission will fill a gap in city policy and ensure that veterans are included in our decision-making processes.
